At a Council Meeting held on 4 June 2026, pursuant to section 3.12 of the Local Government Act 1995 and Section 79 of the Cat Act 2011, Council adopted the Shire of Toodyay Cat Local Law 2026:

It also provides additional measures to support the Shire in addressing cat nuisance and enhancing permit conditions, definitions, prohibited places and penalties. .
- The effect of which to provide a clear regulatory framework for responsible cat ownership and the management of cats and cat facilities, protect environmental values, and enable enforcement of nuisance behaviours. It establishes obligations for cat owners, supports enforcement of the Cat Act 2011, and equips the Shire with the regulatory tools necessary to administer cat management within the district. .
- The justification of which is that it provides the Shire of Toodyay with clear and effective regulatory tools to manage cat ownership and amenity issues within the district.
