Prohibited Burning Period Begins

No burning is permitted in the Shire of Toodyay from 1 November 2026

The Shire of Toodyay advises that the Prohibited Burning Period is now in effect.

No burning is permitted for any reason during this period. This includes burning rubbish or garden refuse, campfires and open cooking fires. The Prohibited Burning Period is scheduled to remain in place until 8 March 2027, subject to seasonal conditions.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to review their fire safety arrangements, maintain firebreaks as required and remain aware of local conditions throughout the warmer months.

Plant and machinery

Plant and machinery operations may be permitted during the Prohibited Burning Period, provided all applicable fire safety requirements are met.

Plant and machinery, including harvesters, tractors and graders, must carry a serviceable water fire extinguisher with a minimum capacity of 7.5 litres. A dry powder extinguisher does not replace this requirement.

Appointed Bush Fire Control Officers may inspect plant and machinery for compliance. Penalties may apply where requirements are not met.

Total Fire Bans

A Prohibited Burning Period is not the same as a Total Fire Ban. A Total Fire Ban may be declared during the Prohibited Burning Period, and all applicable restrictions must be followed.

Residents are encouraged to check current conditions before undertaking any activity that may create a fire risk.
