The Shire of Toodyay is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Suzie Haslehurst as the Shire’s new Chief Executive Officer. She commenced her role with the Shire on Monday, 22 June 2020 after Council voted to accept an early start date.

Ms Haslehurst has already relocated to Toodyay from York where she has spent the past three and a half years as Executive Manager, Corporate & Community Services. During her time at York, Ms Haslehurst worked with the staff and Councillors to increase community communication and engagement, enhance governance practices and improve relationships across the organisation and within the community.

Shire President, Cr Rosemary Madacsi said she is looking forward to working with Ms Haslehurst. “Suzie’s experience in local government and across other sectors will be of great value to us here in Toodyay. She’s been a strong and successful advocate in all of her previous roles and I have no doubt she’ll bring that passion to the Shire as CEO” said Cr Madacsi.

Ms Haslehurst has a varied background working as CEO of national Indigenous publishing house Magabala Books in Broome for eleven years before joining the Shire of Broome as Manager Community Development and then Acting Director Community and Economic Development. She was Chairperson of Country Arts WA for eight years and National President of Regional Arts Australia for three years. These roles saw her advocating with Local, State and Federal politicians, funding bodies and other decision-makers on behalf of regional Australia. Ms Haslehurst also has a strong background in governance and financial management.

“Toodyay is a beautiful town with wonderful potential. I’m looking forward to getting to know the local community and working together to meet the challenges of COVID-19 to emerge as a stronger, more vibrant and prosperous town” Ms Haslehurst said.

Chileya Luangala has been Acting Chief Executive Officer and will step down from that position with Suzie’s commencement. Chileya has done a superb job in the Acting position and her efforts have been appreciated. Chileya will be staying on with the Shire in her role as Manager Corporate and Community Services.
