Our very own local artist, Jessica Edwards Parker, is in the running for the People's Choice Award in the 2025 WALGA Showcase in Pixels Art Competition!
Her stunning digital artwork below, created for this year's theme 'Design our Future', imagines a sustainable future built on innovation and environmental care. The repeating pattern features new-technology windmills, inspired by the shape of old Dutch windmills, that combine solar panels and wind turbines for continuous energy generation.

Jessica's words:
This digital artwork, created on an iPad using Procreate, depicts a future built on innovation and environmental care. It’s a repeating pattern that features new-technology windmills, inspired by the shape of old Dutch windmills. These unique windmills combine solar panels and wind turbines, generating energy continuously.
I’ve also incorporated a rail network, which I believe can play a crucial role in reducing car use. I envision bicycle tracks alongside the rail lines, connecting residents of Toodyay to town and each other. Cycling on roads where cars travel at high speeds can be frightening, but a safe and scenic rail-side cycleway would make cycling a practical and enjoyable alternative for local travel.
Agricultural practices have also evolved in this imagined future. Drone technology replaces heavy machinery, protecting soil health and enabling targeted and efficient weed control. The land is treated with greater respect and precision.
I envision our region preserving its beautiful heritage buildings while embracing innovative, sustainable housing options like earthships. This artwork celebrates a balance between preservation and progress, showcasing how old and new technologies can work together to create a thriving, dynamic, and sustainable community.
The winning artwork will be displayed on the iconic digital tower in Yagan Square, Perth CBD!
