The Shire of Toodyay is pleased to advise that the Toodyay Recreation Centre playing field has been designated as an off-leash dog exercise area.
This initiative follows the Notice of Motion raised at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 4 June 2026 (OCM123/06/26) and recognises the limited number of designated off-leash dog exercise areas available within the Shire.
Importantly, no amendments to the Shire of Toodyay Dog Local Laws were required to establish this off-leash area.
The new off-leash space provides an opportunity for local residents and visitors to exercise and socialise their dogs in a dedicated area, while ensuring the Recreation Centre continues to accommodate a range of community activities.
Conditions of Use
To ensure the area remains safe and enjoyable for all users, dog owners and handlers are reminded to observe the following conditions:
- The off-leash area is used at the owner's own risk.
- During organised sporting activities, events or maintenance works, dogs must be placed on a lead and walked only around the outside of the oval by a responsible and capable person.
- Persons responsible for a dog must immediately remove and appropriately dispose of any dog waste. Dog waste bags are available on site if required. Failure to clean up after a dog may result in a $200 infringement.
- Dogs must remain under the control and within the sight of the person responsible for them at all times. Owners or handlers must also carry a lead of sufficient length and strength to safely restrain their dog whenever required.
- Failure to comply with these requirements may result in enforcement action, including fines or prosecution under the Dog Act 2026.
Visitors are also encouraged to be considerate of other users of the Recreation Centre and ensure their dogs are well behaved and responsive to commands. Responsible pet ownership helps create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone using the facility.
