A familiar part of the Shire Administration Offices has officially departed, with the old transportable building — affectionately known by many as “the Donga” — now removed from site after more than 26 years.
At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 5 March 2026, Council resolved to dispose of the ageing structure to Roam Distillery for $1 following a report which found the building had reached the end of its useful life and would require significant repairs and ongoing maintenance to remain operational.
On 5 May 2026, the building was successfully relocated from the Administration site, marking the end of an era for a structure that had quietly become part of the everyday backdrop of the Shire offices for decades.
Rather than being demolished, the Donga has now been given a second life through Roam Distillery, who arranged the relocation of the structure for reuse elsewhere in the community. Best of all, the relocation and removal were completed at no cost to the community.
While modest in appearance, the Donga served many purposes over the years and will no doubt be remembered by staff, Councillors and community members alike.
The Shire thanks everyone involved in coordinating the relocation.
