At the Shire of Toodyay’s Council Meeting held on 27 November, Council resolved to proceed with the following actions concerning Slaughterhouse Bridge which was recently closed on advice from Main Roads WA (MRWA).
Preferred Design - Further to indicative costings provided by MRWA for three replacement options, Council endorsed a single-lane bridge with a footpath as the preferred option for the replacement of Slaughterhouse Bridge.
Further Reporting - MRWA will prepare a 50% design for the single-lane bridge with footpath option, including updated cost estimates. This will then be presented to Council for further consideration. Should Council resolve to proceed, the Shire will then be required to source applicable funding.
Funding Advocacy - The Chief Executive Officer will request an urgent meeting with the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government to discuss funding support, and advise of interim risks and detour arrangements for Slaughterhouse Bridge.
Council voted unanimously in favour of these resolutions (7/0).
In addition, the Shire is liaising with Dept of Planning, Lands and Heritage to expedite the required cultural heritage approvals for works to Slaughterhouse Bridge.
The Shire will continue to provide updates on the status of Slaughterhouse Bridge as they become available.
