Newcastle Park Footbridge Update

Published on Friday, 12 December 2025 at 2:44:14 PM

Following last month’s update, here’s the current status of the Newcastle Park Footbridge project:

  • Recent vandalism damage has been repaired to keep the bridge safe and mitigate risk in the short term.
  • The Shire will replace all deck boards with the most suitable weather-resistant, anti-vandalism materials for long-term durability and safety.
  • The initial estimated cost has come in at $125,000 and this level of expenditure requires Council approval.
  • A report to reallocate funds to undertake the decking replacement will be presented at next week’s December Ordinary Council Meeting.
  • A start date for works is still to be confirmed.
For now, the bridge will remain closed until the new decking is installed and the structure is safe for public use. We’ll share reopening timeframes as soon as the construction schedule is locked in.

We know this closure is frustrating, however we appreciate your patience as we work to reopen Newcastle Park Footbridge safely and as quickly as possible.
