The Shire invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to be considered for appointment as Independent Members of its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).
About the Committee
The ARIC is a statutory committee established under s.7.1A of the Act. Its functions include:
- Oversight of financial management and audit processes;
- Monitoring risk management, internal controls, and compliance;
- Reviewing CEO reports under Audit Regulation 17; and
- Supporting transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The Committee meets at least quarterly, with additional meetings scheduled as required. Meetings are conducted in accordance with the Act.
Roles Available
The Shire is seeking to appoint:
- Independent Presiding Member;
- Independent Deputy of the Presiding Member; and an
- Independent Committee Member
Appointments will be made for a term concluding at the next ordinary local government election (October 2027), unless otherwise determined by Council.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident;
- Not be a current elected member or employee of any local government;
- Be available to attend scheduled meetings and contribute constructively.
- Have expertise in one or more of the following:
- Financial management;
- Audit and assurance;
- Risk management;
- Governance and compliance;
- Internal controls or cyber security.
- Not have been subject to bankruptcy or serious criminal conviction.
Desirable attributes include:
- Experience with public sector or institutional governance
- Familiarity with local government legislation and meeting procedures
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and communication skills
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CPA, legal or governance credentials) and prior committee experience are highly regarded.
Remuneration
Independent members will be remunerated in accordance with the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal Determination for Local Government Council Members and CEOs and receive a Meeting Attendance Allowance of $123.25 per meeting, in line with the Shire’s adopted Local Government Payments and Gifts to Members policy.
