Fencing Local Law 2026

The Shire of Toodyay proposes to make a local law relating to Fencing, the purpose and effect of which is:
Purpose: to prescribe the minimum standards for a sufficient fence and to regulate the construction, maintenance and materials of fences within the district so as to ensure safety, amenity and consistency with applicable legislation.
Effect: to establish—
- the requirements for the construction and maintenance of dividing fences and boundary fences;
- the circumstances in which approval is required for certain types of fencing;
- the standards for fencing materials, including electrified and razor wire fencing; and
- the obligations of owners and occupiers in relation to fences.
A copy of the proposed Local Law may be inspected at or obtained from the Shire’s Administration Centre at 15 Fiennes Street, Toodyay between 8.30 am and 4.00 pm Monday to Friday or at the Toodyay Public Library during normal opening hours.
The Shire invites submissions by 4.00pm on Friday 4 September 2026.
