Saturday 10 October saw the opening of the Coondle-Nunile Bush Fire Brigade Station followed closely by the opening of the Morngup co-Located Emergency Facility which houses both the Morangup Bush Fire Brigade and the Toodyay SES.
The Coondle Brigade has been in it’s facility for approximately 12 months but due to COVID-19 restrictions the official opening was delayed to coincide with the Morangup opening.
Both openings were officiated by the CEO, Suzie Haslehurst; Shire President, Cr Rosemary Madacsi; Hon. Francis Michael Logan MLA Minister for Emergency Services and Corrective Services; and Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM who were all very impressed with the design and standards of both facilities.
The Minister noted the obvious amount of hard work which had been carried out to bring both of these facilities to fruition and how, in particular the ESL levy ratepayers paid through their annual rates contributed to the development of the state of the art Coondle-Nunile facility for the safety of the Toodyay community.
Funding for both facilities was around $500,000 each which derived from the LG Grant Scheme (ESL Levy) the Shire of Toodyay and the Department of Water and Environment Regulation (DWER) through a Fire Emergency Water Facility WA grant.
The Commissioner and Minister highlighted the work of volunteers and thanked them for their efforts.
In respect to Coondle-Nunile Bush Fire Brigade, the Shire would like to acknowledge the input of the Public Transport Authority and CBH Group in providing the subleased land on which the Station is built.
Both functions were well attended by Volunteers and the wider community including those in support from other brigades and services. There were plenty of opportunities to speak with the Minister and Commissioner along with the CEO, Shire President and Shire Councillors who were in attendance.
