Update – Toodyay Road Upgrade Works

Published on Tuesday, 24 January 2023 at 3:00:00 PM

Main Roads WA’s Toodyay Road Upgrade Project is well underway. Here is an overview of current and upcoming works to keep you in the know.

Blasting activity approaches completion

Thank you to all road users and local landowners for their ongoing patience and cooperation while blasting activities to remove the rock outcrop adjacent to Coorinja Winery have been carried out.

Traffic management measures and wait times in the area are currently between 10 and 15 minutes per day.

The rock outcrop looks set to be fully removed by the end of January, enabling road construction to commence between Clackline-Toodyay and Northam-Toodyay Road. This section of the upgrade remains on track for completion in April 2023.

Service relocation works (telecommunication and electrical) taking place from February 23

From 23 January through to the end of June 2023, some telecommunication and electrical services will be relocated between Lovers Lane and Clackline-Toodyay Road. This will require Telstra and Western Power crews to work in close proximity to Toodyay Road, with light vehicles and machinery visible.

Intermittent speed reductions will be in place on sections of the road where a safe distance between the workforce and traffic cannot be maintained. Road users are requested to drive with care and follow all traffic management measures on site. Any additional management measures that become necessary will be communicated once confirmed.

Relocating these services will require some minor vegetation removal along property boundaries and around new power pole locations, to provide the access and safety clearances required by the service providers. All clearing will be undertaken in accordance with relevant environmental guidelines, and will be strictly limited to areas needed for the new services to be installed. Remaining vegetation removal in these locations will be undertaken prior to road construction – provisionally scheduled to begin in the second half of 2023.

Resurfacing works to commence in February

In 2022, intersection-widening and barrier works were undertaken to improve safety on Toodyay Road between Aspen Road and Dryandra Road.

From February 2023, Main Roads will be finalising this section of the upgrade with resurfacing and line-marking. Road users are reminded to drive carefully and expect speed reductions/temporary traffic stops while this work is completed.
