Western Australia’s first Seniors Strategy – a plan that will guide the Government in supporting older residents over the next 10 years – has been released, and can now be viewed on the State Government website.
This Strategy will assist the Government in providing long-term assistance to seniors across the State, with a focus on helping them feel valued, safe, and empowered to lead happy and fulfilling lives in age-friendly communities.
It aims to ensure WA seniors can thrive physically, mentally, and spiritually; live securely; stay connected and engaged; and have their views heard – all important initiatives in communities like Toodyay that have a significant elderly population.
The Strategy is accompanied by the State’s first five-year Action Plan (2023-2027) that sets out a range of relevant actions, including a campaign to tackle ageism in WA.
Both documents have been developed following extensive consultation, including discussions with and surveying of more than 2,600 people – primarily seniors and pre-seniors, as well as community service providers, peak bodies, and a range of government agencies.
