Australian Citizenship

Passport

The Shire of Toodyay conducts Citizenship Ceremonies from time-to-time, on behalf of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in accordance with the Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code.

Becoming an Australian citizen means you call Australia home with all the privileges and responsibilities of a person who was born here.

If you wish to become an Australian Citizen, your first step is to contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship on 131 880, or you can visit the department’s website at http://www.citizenship.gov.au/

The process of applying for Australian citizenship will vary, depending on your circumstances and eligibility.

The time it takes to apply for and be approved for Australian citizenship will also vary.  For most applicants, it takes the department between three to six months to make a decision on an application.

If you are a resident of Toodyay, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship will advise us when your application has been approved, after which we will be in contact with you to arrange your Citizenship Ceremony.

It is important to note that the Shire cannot arrange a Citizenship Ceremony for you until the Department of Immigration and Citizenship notify us that your application for Australian Citizenship has been approved.
