Harvest and Total Fire Bans
To assist in preventing fires a Harvest, Vehicle Movement & Hot Works Ban or a Total Fire Ban may be declared.
Harvest, Vehicle Movement & Hot Works Ban
The Harvest, Vehicle Movement & Hot Works Ban, once declared by the Shire, prohibits all harvesting operations, all vehicle movements on a property (with the exception of the essential watering of stock using a diesel powered vehicle) and all hot works such as welding grinding and abrasive tools within the Shire of Toodyay.
Any of the above operations already underway when the ban is declared must cease immediately.
A Harvest, Vehicle Movement & Hot Works Ban remains in place until midnight on the day called or until lifted (revoked) by the Shire.
A ban may be called for the following reasons:
- Unfavourable fire weather conditions
- Depletion of firefighting resources due to existing firefighting commitments
- Public Holidays (Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Australia Day)
When a ban is declared, it is advertised on ABC local radio and via the Shire’s Harvest, Vehicle Movement & Hot Works Ban SMS notification service.

The Shire of Toodyay operates a Harvest, Vehicle Movement & Hot Works Ban SMS notification service. Once registered for the service the subscribers will be sent SMSs notifying:

Please note the Harvest, Vehicle Movement & Hot Works Ban SMS notification service is not an emergency warning system. Please visit the DFES website for information on emergency warning notifications.
Total Fire Bans
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) may declare a Total Fire Ban. A Total Fire Ban prohibits the lighting of any fires in the open air and any other activities that may start a fire.
A Total Fire Ban is not the same at Harvest, Vehicle Movement & Hot Works Ban. For further details on Total Fire Bans visit the DFES Website. DFES advertises Total Fire Bans via media outlets such as ABC Local Radio and on its website.
