Firebreak Order Document
Every year the Shire of Toodyay issues a Firebreak Order under the provisions of the Bushfires Act 1954. The Firebreak Order sets out the legal responsibility for a land owners and occupier to maintain their property to a minimum standard between 1 November and 30 April each year.
Please be aware that, for many properties the Firebreak Order contains additional requirements pertaining to the management of vegetation and other flammable materials on the property.
It is important that land owners and occupiers fully understand the requirements which relate to their property and key dates/deadlines.
In special circumstances a request for a variation to the requirements of the order may be approved. Variations must be applied for in writing by the 1st of October in any year.
The Shire conducts compliance inspections annually. Penalties apply for property owners who do not comply with the relevant section(s) of the order.

Firebreak Contractors List 2016/2017
To assist landholders prepare their properties, The Shire of Toodyay has compiled a list of local contractors who can carry out tasks related to the Firebreak order.
In compiling and providing the above contractors list, the Shire is not recommending or endorsing any business on this list. Contractors who wish to be added to the list should contact Ranger Services on 9574 4555.
Residents are reminded that engaging a contractor does not relieve them of their responsibility under the Firebreak Order. It is the land owner’s/occupier’s responsibility to ensure that adequate works are completed by the 1 November and the standard maintained thought until 30 April.
