The Shire of Toodyay’s public library service is part of a state wide network that operates between local government authorities and the Library Information Service of Western Australia.

The Library is situated in the building that was originally the Mechanic’s Institute, located at 96 Stirling Terrace, Toodyay.  The Toodyay Library has recently had a massive upgrade, so come in and have a look at the amazing architecture, and check out some of the great history within its walls.Toodyay Library

Membership

Library membership is free and anyone residing in the area can join. To become a library member you must produce proof of your current address, for example a drivers' license, rates notice, pension card or bill. If you are under the age of 18 years old, a parent or guardian's signature is required.

A temporary membership is available for visitors in transit - a $25.00 refundable bond is payable.

The new "One Stop" self service issuing and returns system is now operational for the general public to utilise.  Please ensure that you bring along your Library Membership Card.

Baby Rhyme Time/Storytime - 10:30 & 11am on Friday

for babies, toddler & pre-school age children.  Come join us for an experience that will enrich and extend your child's imagination with stories rhymes and craft activities for all to enjoy.

Sharing a Good Read - 10am every 2nd Thursday

New members are always welcome to attend and participate in this regular event.  If you enjoy reading and sharing your thoughts, experiences and humorous anecdotes in good company with the added bonus of light refreshments this is definately for you.

Crime Club - 10am on 3rd Friday of Month

Toodyay Crime Club (adults only) cordially invites you to join thier regular meetings.  Each month they discuss different crimes, analyse crime scene reconstructions and examine the reasons why people commit murder. It's a great deal of fun, and who knows? You may even become a super slueth.

The Reading Room

A special area has been set aside as a Reading Room, so please make yourself comfortable in the lounge area. This area is ideal for perusing history collections, atlases, dictionaries and encyclopaedias.

An OPAC computer is available to access local Library stock information and to place reservations.

Photocopying are also available, please ask Library staff.

Borrowing

The following rules apply to the borrowing of library items:

  • Your library membership card must be provided when borrowing items
  • Adults may borrow up to eight items at a time
  • Children may borrow up to four items at a time
  • Items may be renewed twice, provided there are no requests on the item
  • You may renew items by emailing or calling the Library
  • Replacement cards will incur a cost
  • Afterhours return chute

Our librarians have access to over two million items located in public libraries throughout Western Australia. If we do not have the information or item you require in the Library we will try and get it for you.

Mobile Library Service

The Toodyay Library offers a mobile library service at the Morangup Community Hall between 3pm and 5pm on every second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
