Project Location – Wallaby Way Reserve, Morangup
Opportunities for 20 volunteers | Saturday 22nd July,2017

The Darling Scarp is a beautiful natural phenomenon, providing often dramatic habitat for our native flora and fauna and an amazing location for recreational activities for residents of Perth and surrounds. Much of the scarphas been allocated as reserve – the Wallaby Way Reserve in Morangup, is a slice of remnant bushland between properties near Toodyay. With pockets of melaleuca forest and natural springs, the area is an important site for local marsupials including woylies, kangaroos and bandicoots. You’re invited to come together with your community and help us to rehabilitate a section of this beautiful reserve.

Volunteers will be assisting Conservation Volunteers and the Shire of Toodyay to plant native seedlings in Wallaby Way Reserve.  These will infill gravel pits left by road construction and will add habitat value to the site.

Where to meet

9.30 am:  Meet at the Morangup Community Centre on Wallaby Way, Morangup
Finish time:  12.00 pm on site.

Bring a water bottle
It’s important that you bring a full water bottle with you – remember to keep drinking plenty of fluids, especially if it’s a warm day and you’re volunteering hard. A one-litre size water bottle is a good choice – just ask your Team Leader if you need to refill it during the day.

What to wear
You’ll need a pair of sturdy closed in shoes – CVA recommends strong work or walking boots that will protect your feet and ankles – make sure they are comfortable!

For protection from the sun and for your own safety you are required to wear long trousers, long sleeved shirts with a collar, sunglasses and a sun hat – you’ll need to have these to comply with our safety procedures.

In cooler weather, consider layering for warmth, and bring a raincoat if wet weather is likely.

We will provide
A high visibility safety vest will be provided for you to wear during the project, along with tools, first aid equipment and toilet facilities.  We can provide gloves or you can bring your own – leather ones, or ones with a leather palm are the best choices to protect your hands, especially if you’re pulling out weeds, digging, or helping build fences or walking tracks.
